1. Vice-Mayor Jones called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance, and Commissioner Mathews gave the prayer for tonight’s meeting.
All persons intending to address the City Commission were duly sworn.

4. PUBLIC COMMENT
Penny Johnston wanted to let everyone know about the public meeting being held tomorrow, 1/24/2023, at City Hall with the Florida Department of Transportation, FDOT. This meeting will be to discuss the construction that will begin soon at 23rd street and US Business 41. She also let everyone know of the public input meetings that will be happening in February at four locations. These handouts were made part of the minutes.

Mr. Rayan also noted the meeting being held, Tuesday, January 24th at City Hall with the FDOT.

10. DEPARTMENT HEADS’ COMMENTS
Mr. Freeman reminded the Commission of the next meeting on February 6th. He also informed every one of the emergency exit that is being installed at City Hall, which will be ADA compliant.
Captain Waiters reported that there were no major problems at the fair. He also noted that he received a lot of positive comments regarding the City of Palmetto’s booth at the fair.

Mr. Barnebey complimented the City’s fair booth and opined that the fair went well. He also reported that changes to the code will hopefully be coming forward at the next workshop.
Mr. Rayan was pleased to announce several new employees will be starting soon at Public Works. He stated that there are a lot of projects going on in the City. The new Police Department is looking great and they’re getting closer to the move in date. The 7th street extension project has started, and the roundabout will be starting soon.
11. MAYOR’S REPORT
Mayor Bryant noted that Wesley Beauchamp and Ron Berman assisted Penny Johnston with the fair booth. Information on the midblock crossing on 8th Avenue will be forthcoming. She noted that if anyone has questions on the roundabout to encourage them to come to the meeting tomorrow night for more information. Mayor Bryant also reported that she was at the multi-cultural festival, and the CRA did a great job. She also gave accolades to the Code Enforcement Officers who have been doing a wonderful job.
12. COMMISSIONERS’ COMMENTS
Commissioner Mathews agreed that the fair went very well.
Commissioner Williams had a lady stop by his house who wants to put bat houses at Connor Park to help control mosquitos and insects. Mr. Rayan commented that they also have bat houses at Estuary Park. Commissioner Williams asked if there can be an extension of the sidewalk on 7th to go to Estuary Park. He also expressed that he doesn’t think a 6-foot chain link fence will look right at the new Police Department. Chief Tyler responded that it is very necessary to have security around the building. Discussions continued regarding chain link fences in the downtown commercial core. Commissioner Williams reiterated his dislike for the chain link fence. He stated that he will support another option.
Commissioner Smith questioned if they have different kinds of chain link fences. He opined that prices for alternatives need to be explored.
Commissioner Jones noted that he would like something brought back for discussion regarding the fencing options at the new Police Department.
Commissioner Cornwell reported that the fair was beautiful, and everything went well. She thanked Commissioner Williams for agreeing to go to the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council meeting in February for her. She also noted that Commissioner Mathews will be attending the Palmetto Historical board meeting in her place.

Commissioner Jones echoed that the fair went well. He also noted that the multi-cultural festival was a great success. He liked the kids zone. He would like to be able to discuss and advertise for the artist earlier for future events.
Mayor Bryant mentioned that she has asked the CRA staff to gather and share the materials that were given out to the public at the multi-cultural festival. Mr. Barnebey reiterated the purpose of CRA events is to help the public understand the purpose of the CRA and what they offer to their residents.
Vice-Mayor Jones adjourned the meeting at 7:38 pm.
