CRA BOARD MEETING

February 4, 2019

Mayor Bryant opened the CRA Board meeting at 7:29 p.m.

 

 

1.  CRA BOARD AGENDA APPROVAL

 

Motion:           Commissioner Cornwell moved, Commission Davis seconded, and the motion carried 5-0 to approve the February 4, 2019 CRA Board Agenda.

 

 

   2.  PUBLIC COMMENT

 

No comments.

 

 

3. CONSENT AGENDA APPROVAL

      A. Blalock Walters Legal Invoices                

 

Motion:           Commissioner Cornwell moved, Commissioner Davis seconded, and the motion carried 5-0 to approve the February 4, 2019 CRA Board Consent Agenda.

 

   4.  CRA DIRECTOR’S COMMENTS                                                                                                

CRA Director Jeff Burton reviewed the progress of the due diligence for the “Slick’s” and “Growers” downtown properties. Mr. Burton also asked for clarification on the process for selecting musicians for the City’s 4th of July event.   Mayor Bryant suggested letting the CRA Advisory Board be a part of the selection process next year.   Commissioners Varnadore and Smith were happy with the process as it is. 

   Commissioner Cornwell suggested bringing a few suggested artist names to the County Fair and let the people vote at the City booth.      Commissioner Williams suggested that the Advisory Board would bring their recommendations to the City Commission for approval. 

 

   Commissioner Smith asked how much was spent on the 4th of July event and the Multicultural event.  Mr. Burton responded approximately $80,000 plus $25,000 for family friendly activities including rides for the 4th of July.  Palmetto Build donates $5,000.  Mr. Smith requested copies of the paperwork showing the expenses for the two events. He also requested to be notified when RFP is posted. The CRA paid approximately $45,000 for the Multicultural event. Commissioner Smith claims he has not been to new CRA location and asked Jeff Burton for the new address.

 

   Commissioner Williams made a motion that the City set a policy for the CRA staff to do research based on the budget and make their suggestions to the CRA Advisory Board would bring their recommendations to the CRA Board to vote for bands to play at the 4th of July, but the motion was not seconded.

 

5.  PRESIDING OFFICER’S COMMENTS

   Mr. Burton was still looking for direction for selecting the musical acts.  He was advised to continue doing what he has done in the past for the 4th of July.

 

6.  CRA BOARD MEMBERS’ COMMENTS

  Mayor Bryant sent a letter to City employees stating the comments made by Commissioner Smith are not representative of the policies of City of Palmetto.

 

   Commissioner Cornwell commented that the awning on the Pratt building on the corner of 7th Street and 8th Avenue with citrus signs posted has been clipped by traffic.  Mr. Burton commented the property is for sale.

 

    The Mayor adjourned the CRA Board meeting at 7:53 p.m., however the audio continued for another twenty (20) minutes recording the City Commission Meeting due to operator error by Penny Johnston.
